Now excuse the personal narrative, but a bit of back-story. Basically I've been away from London for quite a while, and I've just got back today for the first time in over a year.
I was kinda excited. I thought the memories would come flashing back, I would be pleased to be at home, everything would be nice and dandy.
The anti-climax is profound.
I planned introducing the new video for Devlin's single with some sense of personal sympathy and shared enthusiasm, but nah. Still, the tune is very good and the video is polished, and it's made me anticipate 'Bud Sweat and Beers' once again after its delay. Have a listen.
Devlin - London City Video
While Devlin is preoccupied with London, there's been preoccupations in grime recently about London and being away from the place. This time last week Skepta's In The Country was doing the rounds, with claims of Wiley needing a 'tom-tom just to get around Bow'. A similar theme has cropped up in a war of words between Lethal Bizzle and Jammer.
I only mention it because both Bizzle and Jammer talk about a nine minute monologue each, drawing from their little back-in-the-day anecdotes to slag the other off in, really, what is a pretty entertaining war of words that looks as if it's being fought through the internet.
Jammer's words for Lethal and Fire Camp
Lethal B's reply
Maybe Tinchy Stryder's new EP will cheer me up slightly. I'm yet to listen, so the jury's still out, but he's given away some free tracks on his website today. You can't go wrong - download them here.
Just a quick round-up today - back to London living. At least the weather's nice.
